Reproductive Behaviour
Although the reproductive behaviour of C. guamensis has not been studied, the way in which they reproduce is the same. Most hermit crabs reproduce according to seasonal variations, although some can reproduce all year round (Hazlett 1981). Reproduction in hermit crab soccur when the male transfers his spermatophore into the females gonophore, both sexes must partially come out of their shell in order for this to happen. Females can mate with more than one male and can carry eggs that belong to more than one father (Ameyaw-Akumfi1975; Hazlett 1981). The eggs are fertilised once the female lays and attaches the eggs to her legs inside the shell (Poore & Museum 2007).
